چکیده

An enzyme which catalyses dehydrogenation of y-aminobutyraldehyde (ABAL) to y-aminobutyric acid (GABA) was purified to homogeneity from rat brain tissues by using DEAE-cellulose and affinity chromatography on 5'AMP-Sepharose, phosphocellulose and Blue Agarose, followed by gel filtration. Such an enzyme was first purified from mammalian brain tissues, and was identified as an isoenzyme of aldehyde dehydrogenase. It has an Mr of 210000 determined by polyacrylamide-gradient-gel electrophoresis, and appeared to be composed of subunits of Mr 50000. The close similarity of substrate specificity toward acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde and glycolaldehyde between the enzyme and other aldehyde dehydrogenases previously reported was observed. But substrate specificity of the enzyme toward ABAL was higher than those of aldehyde dehydrogenases from human liver (E1 and E2), and was lower than those of ABAL dehydrogenases from human liver (E3), Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas species. The M, and relative amino acid composition of the enzyme are also similar to those of E1 and E2. The existence of this enzyme in mammalian brain seems to be related to a glutamate decarboxylase-independent pathway (alternative pathway) for GABA synthesis from putrescine.

Elevation of y=Aminobutyric Acid in Brain: Selective Inhibition of y-Aminobutyric-a-ketoglutaric Acid Transaminase*

The quantitative measurement of amino acids in different areas of the central nervous system has shown that a progressive increase takes place in levels of y-aminobutyric acid during development (2, 3), and that the concentration of this amino acid in adult brain is relatively constant under a variety of physiological stresses. y-Aminobutyric acid is synthesized by glutamic acid decarboxylase, ...

Maintaining the postharvest nutritional quality of peach fruits by γ-Aminobutyric acid . Morteza Soleimani Aghdam1*, Farhang Razavi2 and Fatemeh Karamneghad3

Fresh peaches are highly perishable and they deteriorate quickly during low temperature storage which results in losses in nutritional quality. To prevent these adverse effects, peach fruits were treated by dipping with γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA; 2, 4 and 6 mM) immediately after harvest and then stored at 1 °C for 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. Peach fruits treated with GABA exhibited higher flesh fir...

Alleviation of oxidative stress induced by drought stress through priming by β-aminobutyric acid (BABA) in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) plants. Neda Mohamadi1,2, Amin Baghizadeh3*, Sara Saadatmand1, Zahra Asrar4

The objective of this study was to investigate the role of β-aminobutyric acid(BABA) (0, 300µM) in reduction of oxidative damages in leaves and roots of Brassica napus L. under drought stress (0, -0.2, -0.4 MPa). β-aminobutyric acid was investigated as an internal regulator hormone and its role in defense  mechanisms against biotic and abioticstresses. In this study, BABA pretreatment prevented...

Effect of exogenous Gama-aminobutyric acid on physiological tolerance of wheat seedlings exposed to chilling stress . Praviz Malekzadeh*, Jalil Khara and Reza Heidari

Accumulation of γ -aminobutyric acid (GABA) is associated with stress factors in plant systems. The objective of the current study was to compare GABA concentration in wheat plants under chilling stress. After 48 h treatments of seedlings under chilling stress combined stresses with and without GABA, morphological and biochemical assays were conducted. It was observed that the inhibition of see...

Effect of dietary γ-aminobutyric acid on performance parameters and some plasma metabolites in Cherry Valley ducks under high ambient temperature

Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) is one of the inhibitory neurotransmitters that may have the ability torelieve the intensity of stress. Heat stress remains a major threat for duck production in summer in most areas of China. The current study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary GABA on performanceparameters and plasma metabolites of heat exposed ducks. Two thousand Cherry Valley d...
